Q. My cat has lost a lot of weight fast , and has gone righ off food will eat a mouth full but that's all other wise his coat and eyes are bight and shin

Answered By
DAVID ELBEZE, DVM, MRCVS

A. These are worrying signs. Many diseases could cause these symptoms such as kidney failure, a tumor, a foreign body ingestion or pancreatitis.

You should take your cat to the vet as soon as you can, first because of the with lost, but most importantly because he is not eating - and that could be very serious in a cat.

The vet will probably run a blood test first, that might revile the cause.

A. There could be a few reasons for this: 1) she is an older kitty and could be suffering from hyperthyroidism (an overactive thjyroid),

2) check her mouth, she could have severde gingivitis, inflammation, ulcers or dental abscesses in her mouth. These are very painful and need to be treated.

Please take her to your vet tomorrow at the latest. Cats can actually get very ill also from not eating....in addition to the underlying cause for not eating.
