Q. WE HAVE A SHELTIE AGE 15 LOOSE TEETH COUGHS SOME TIMES, LOWER JAW SHAKES, HAS LOST WEIGHT. WE ARE GIVING HIM SOFT CANNED FOOD NOW BUT IS NOT GAININ

Answered By
DAVID ELBEZE, DVM, MRCVS

A. If he is not eating it might be as a result of the teeth damage (especially if his jaw shakes). I recommend taking him to the vet, get is oral cavity checked and have a blood test as well. If the teeth condition are bad and the blood test is normal - he might need an extensive dental procedure to relieve the pain and enable him to eat again.
