Q. My dog is about 4 months old he has been having diarrhea for a couple days now and I've noticed sometimes it looks like some sort of slimy mucus.
DESTINI R. HOLLOWAY, DVM
A. This sounds like a common case of enteritis or colitis. These are frequently seen on younger pets because of two things, dietary indiscretion (eating something they shouldn't have) or parasitic (i.e. Roundworms, hookworms, whip worms, tapeworms, and Giardia-protozoan infection).
Pets with enteritis or colitis which consists mainly of diarrhea may be able to be controlled with just probiotics (i.e. Culturelle), a bland diet (i.e. Purine EN Gastrointestinal or boiled plain chicks and rice or cottage cheese), and maintaining hydration with thighs like Pedialyte if dehydration hasn't become advanced. However if the signs continue despite this, then additional testing and treatment are recommended from your veterinarian.
