Q. I've never taken my eldest cat to a vet. I like to take her to one but afraid she might bite someone. Should I still take her? She's sneezing as well?
DESTINI R. HOLLOWAY, DVM
A. Yes I know how scary a cat visit to the doctor can be. However it is for her best interest that she gets checked out annually, especially in older cats, for her exam and yearly bloodwork. Staying ahead of diseases and illness are the best ways to prolong the life of your pet.
If you are inclined to think that she will be aggressive, I would suggest using Feliway wipes, which is a pheromone therapy to help put her in a happy place. Good luck at the vet!
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. You should take her to the vet. Pick one who has a lot of cat clients. I would not worry about her biting the vet, most of the time this will not happen, however you should voice your concern so that the techs and the vet are extra careful. Also tell them that this will be the kitty's first vet visit, so they can be extra special nice to her!
