A. It sounds like your pet has a condition called vestibular disease. This can be idiopathic (no underlying disease and will eventually resolve within 2-4 weeks) or it can be caused by inner ear infection, lesions (tumors) on the spinal cord.
The most common cause in older dogs is idiopathic vestibular disease and the recommended treatment is meds for motion sickness, such as Dramamine (Dimehydrinate) @ 4-8mg/kg by mouth every 8 hrs. This medication can be bought over the counter. Any nutritional support should also be offered by raising your pets food and water bowl for them to easily access it until symptoms resolve.
However, I would recommend taking your pet to a vet for a thorough exam and potential bloodwork to help rule out other causes of this before a diagnosis of idiopathic vestibular disease can be made with confidence.
