A. Vomiting or diarrhea is very common after raiding garbage and is commonly due to inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis) which also causes abdominal pain and can result in dehydration if vomiting is severe and exceed the volume he is drinking to replace it. The other concern always would be an intestinal obstruction if he ate something solid/indigestible and too large to pass through the bowel. A blood test for pancreatitis and x-ray would diagnose these and guide optimal treatment plan and should be performed as an emergency if he is lethargic/weak or has any abdominal pain or grunting if you gently press on his belly. If he is otherwise well you could continue with oral fluids and a bland, low fat diet but be aware you may require treatment over the holiday period so I would investigate this sooner!
