Q. Can cats have panic attacks?
LINDSEY EDWARDS MVB, BSC, IVCA
A. Anxiety related panic attacks are not widely recognized in cats but they can become very distressed if frightened. Other reasons for extreme increases in heart and respiratory rates can include heart/lung disease and hormone conditions such as hyperthyroidism and if you are concerned by your pets symptoms, especially if she is breathing through an open mouth, you should get a full health check and blood tests by your vet and a chest x-ray may be required
