Q. My dog is a diabetic. She takes Insulin twice a day at mealtimes. I feed her grain free can, dry, and treats.
All grain free. Is that OK?

A. Do not change your dogs food or insulin without first consulting your primary vet. Regular feeding of the same formulation and calorie content with regular injections are the cornerstone of stable management. Grain free is a popular and often successful choice of diet and the most important factors are to avoid rapidly digested sources of carbohydrate and glucose and a moderate to high protein and fiber level to regularize blood glucose levels. Not all 'grains' are neceassarily to be avoided as not all are rapidly absorbed as glucose
