Q. What type of laxative would be suitable for a dog
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. You should not give a dog a laxative. If your dog cannot pass stool, there may be a more serious cause for that than just constipation, an intestinal obstruction being one of the causes. You could try feeding your dog one or two table spoons of canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) added to her food. This should resolve any mild constipation within a day or two. Make sure she has fresh water available at all times. If the constipation does not resolve within 2 days then please take her to a veterinarian for an exam.
