Q. Cat throwing up white or yellow foam sometimes and sometimes food
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. If your kitty does this often then I suspect she may have a gastrointestinal problem such as chronic pancreatitis, lymphoma or hyperthyroidism. Another reason could be hairballs. Since your kitty is an older "model" I suggest a senior wellness check at your vet's to have a base line health portfolio and which checks for problems specific for older kitties. Frequent vomiting is not normal in cats.
A. Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. If the vomiting stops, transition slowly to the regular diet. If not, see your veterinarian.
