A. No, this is not a reason to put the cat down. However the vet needs to find out why the rectal prolapse (that is what it is called) happens. This could be from constipation or diarrhea, or parasites, for example. A prolapse can be fixed by the vet by replacing it and then suturing (sewing) a purse string like fastening around the anus for keeping it from popping out again, or in bad cases, the popped out part can be cut off and sutured.
