Q. My four year old cat has lost some teeth has trouble chewing dry food. Should I get wet and what kind Vicky Robinson
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. If your kitty has red gums and smells from her mouth she may have very painful gum disease and therefore lost her teeth. A few lost teeth do not usually hinder a cat from eating dry food. So, unless you have already done so, I suggest you have her mouth examined by a veterinarian. In the meantime I suggest you feed her pate-style ("ground mouse") canned (wet) food. Feed 2 oz twice daily. Kitekat, Friskies, Fancy Feast are all good brands. To feed an adult cat.

A. If your cat lost many teeth over the year, you should probably switch him to wet food completely as he may not be able to crunch on dry food. Make sure you buy a good quality wet food as some of the cheaper brand can be really bad for his health.
