Q. My 9 year old Bernese mountain dog won't eat, is pacing and labored breathing. She just had senior tests done and came back fine. Gums are fine.
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. If your dog has an extended stomach (sort of like a drum) there is a possibility that she is suffering from bloat or a life-threatening GDV (twisted stomach). This would be a time sensitive emergency and your dog needs to be taken to a Pet Emergency room now. There are other causes for pacing and labored breathing such as pain, congestive heart disease, and also senility. Since it could be bloat or GDV you should take her in to see the vet now.
