Q. How can I help my cat to pass her after birth. Her last kitten come out feet first and I thing the cord broke. I did see a piece of cordafter.
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. Her afterbirth should come out within about 20 minutes after the last kitten was born. Do not pull on any tissue hanging from the vulva. If the afterbirth does not come out, there may be no afterbirth left in the queen as she may have eaten it. Sometimes the afterbirth comes before the kitten. If your cat stops eating or drinking, gets lethargic or appears sick, you need to take her and the litter to the vet for an exam to make sure she is ok.
