Q. My 16 year old male cat sometimes vomits clear liquid when he poops. He was pooping in the litter box and sometimes peed out of the box. ??
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. Your kitty needs to be seen by a vet. It may be that he strains a lot while having a bowel movement which in turn may make him bring up liquid. At 16 he is also likely to have arthritis and therefore painful joints which may make squatting difficult. He may be afraid to go do his business, hold on to it too long and then just might not make it to the box in time. Other cats are a bit senile and think they are all the way in the box when touching the litter with the two front legs..... Your kitty should get a senior wellness exam at least once a year so that common old kitty health problems can be addressed early. Theree are also vets who specialises in feline medicine (only treat cats). and who are particularly familiar with the problems of older cats.
