DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. Your MinPin could be suffering from bladder stones, a urinary tract infection or other conditions that make it hard to urinate. You should make an appointment with your vet ASAP

A. If your pet is straining to urinate this is a tell-tale sign of a urinary tract infection. UTI's in male dogs can often be complicated by the presence of urinary stones, especially if he is straining. Therefore my best advice here is to get him seen by a veterinarian for a compete exam and urinalysis. I also because of the straining would recommend an abdominal x-ray to look for potential stones in the urethra and bladder, especially if he comes up positive for crystals in his urinalysis. All of these things can be treated effectively and your vet will come up with the appropriate plan of action on how to move forward with your pets care.
