Q. Can sub q fluids be given to cats on heart medications if given modestly
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. Yes they can, provided they are given on the order of a veterinarian. As a matter of fact, sometimes we have to give fluids to prevent dehydration when the animal is on a diuretc for congestive heart failure. However, again, this should be done on the order of a vet.
DAVID ELBEZE, DVM, MRCVS
A. It is absolutely not recommended to give sub cut fluids at home to a cat with a heart condition without being able to have him monitored closely by a vet on an hourly basis.
