Q. if your new cat was outside primairly, and ate people food, and will not eat wet or dry cat food what to do?
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. Your kitty should really have regular access to inside, as there are predators out there that may eat it at night.... If he is mainly outside he maybe be catching a lot of mice or other prey and not be so hungry as to where he would eat cat food. He may see human food as a treat. Try feeding him inside, get good quality canned food that is made in pate style (ground mouse) and warm it up to make it smell even better. You could try to add a bit of tuna to make it even more interesting and then over time add less and less tuna until his food is only cat food. You should also think about having him neutered as this will a) make it much less likely that he will get infected with FIV/FeLV and b) less likely that he gets run over by a car and c) stop the typical male tomcat smell his urine has and d) stop him spraying .
