Q. My dog has been coughing for 3 days it very deep and dry what should I do u think it kennel cough I unfortunately can't afford to take to vet
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. Just by your description it is not possible to diagnose what causes this cause. You may want to take your dog's rectal temperature and if it is higher than 103 it is likely a viral infection and you should take him to a veterinarian for an exam. If it is indeed kennel cough, then it should go away by itself. However there is also a possibility that your dog may have a heart issue such as congestive heart failure, which also causes dogs to cough, especially at night or at rest. You should really take him to your veterinarian for an exam. If there are financial concerns you can find help, if you type "help with veterinary bills" into your search engine. You may also try to find out if there are any low cost vet clinics in your area.

A. It could be Kennel cough, which will clear up without treatment in most cases within 2 weeks, but at this age it could also be a tumor, a heart condition, or heartworm. these other condition will need medical treatment .
