Q. We have a 9 week old puppy with blindness. There are no other symptoms of hydrocephalus... I was wondering what possible diagnosis there are?
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. It could have congenital blindness, ie been born blind. Possible congenital eye disorders that can cause puppy blindness are cataracts for example. Puppies can also be born without vital parts of the inner eye ir a underdeveloped optic nerve. Of course, hydrocephalus or other brain diseases can also cause blindness. You should take your puppy to a vet who can do an eye exam and possibly diagnose a cause.
