Q. How do I get rid of these?? I tried bombs, spray, collars, salt around the house. Shampoo. The cat seems to have them worse.
DR. ANDREA M. BRODIE, DVM
A. I am assuming you are talking about fleas. For every flea you see on on of your animals, there are 10-100 in the environment. You need to 1) get a spot on for your cat and one for your dog (they will have to be labelled for cat and for dog specifically). This will need to be put on your animals once a month. Next you will have to get flea powder and put some in your vacuum cleaner bag. Vacuum your house everywhere, including wooden floors, tile floors, carpeting, etc plus all your furniture. You will have to do this about three times a week. The vacuuming will eliminate larvae and pupae. When you have vacuumed, take the bag and discard it in your outside garbage bin. If you diligently do this for a few months and then keep up the flea medications in your animals, you will significantly lower the flea population. You can also have your vet give you tablets that contain lufenuron which keep the flea larvae from developing into fleas.
