Q. What is the Seresto collar and how does it work?

Answered By
DANA KOCH, VMD, MLAS

A. The Seresto collar is a safe and effective collar that you fit specifically to your dog or cat’s collar for 8 months of protection from fleas and ticks.

The active ingredients include Imidacloprid and Flumethrin. Together these ingredients effectively repel and kill ticks, and also kill larvae and nymphs.

The Seresto collar is also water proof and the active ingredients will not wear off over time because it has sustained release technology.

Many pet owners prefer this product because it lasts for 8 months as opposed to administering other monthly (oral or topical) flea and tick preventatives.
