Q. I keep reading about the risks vs benefits of early socialization in puppies, but what is the actual risk? What are the odds my puppy will get sick?
A. If you are socializing your puppy with dogs that are well cared for and have have their vaccinations, your risk is less. Keeping your puppy vaccinated and in a controlled environment where you know what animals have been present is advisable. Some diseases, like parvo, persist for months in the environment. I would still advise against extensive contact with other dogs until he is over four months of age and has received his last set of vaccinations.
