A. Fanconi syndrome is Inherited in most cases, particularly in Basenjis. Acquired Fanconi syndrome has been reported in dogs treated with gentamicin (antibiotic), streptozotocin (chemical used to treat cancer), and amoxicillin (antibiotic). It is also reported secondary to primary hypoparathyroidism (underactive parathyroid glands). If you suspect the treats had something to do with it. I would save them to show to your vet but definitely keep them away from your dog.

It is important to have her specific condition diagnosed as soon as possible. There is no treatment to reverse the transport defects in dogs with inherited or idiopathic disease. Because the number and severity of transport defects vary markedly between animals, treatments for potassium deficiency, too much acid in the kidney, renal failure, or rickets must be individualized. Young, growing dogs may require vitamin D and/or calcium and phosphorus supplementation.
