A. It's very important to have your dog seen by a vet to find out why he's coughing. He may have an upper respiratory infection, heart condition, pulmonary disease, he may have swallowed something that got caught in his throat, there are a number of reasons why he is coughing and the treatments can vary widely. Treating the correct condition the first time will cost less in the long run if you have to keep trying different remedies, and suppressing the cough alone may not treat an underlying problem. Your vet will do an exam, possibly labwork and/or x-rays and be able to advise you on treatment options from there.
