Q. Sleep agressive dog. Woke up my dog by mistake when I moved in bed and touched his body and he freaked. I hid under my blankets to protect myself

Answered By

A. First thing, I would get him in to see your vet for an exam.He could be painful somewhere that you aren't aware of and your touch while he was sleeping may have hit that sore spot or startled him so that he jumped and triggered pain, which in turn triggered the aggression. If he is healthy and pain free, then this could be a behavioral problem and consulting with a trainer may be your best option. Often dogs that are aggressive in situations like this are trying to assert their dominance and need to be reminded who is actually in charge. If necessary, don't allow him on the bed or even confine him to a crate at night until this matter is resolved.
