Q. My dog is always jumpy even when he is sleeping. Also he has his mouth open all the time. I just feel bad for him as he is never completely still.

A. Make sure to provide him with lots of exercise and mental stimulation. Go for walks, runs, play fetch, get him involved in agility, flyball, playdates with other dogs, go for rides and take him with you wherever you can. Make sure he has plenty of toys (Kong toys are excellent for providing lots of distraction in a durable form.) even feed him treats or his meals from a puzzle ball or feeder to provide lots of mental stimulation, in short, anything and everything to wear him out physically and mentally. A tired dog is a happy, calm dog.

As far as the open mouth goes, you might want to get him seen by a vet to see if there is something causing him to be reluctant or unable to close his mouth.
