Q. Our Shitzu insists on eating our cats' food. Does it hurt her and is there a way to avoid this. Our dog has not had any adverse reactions so far.
A. Dogs and cats have different nutritional requirements. The higher protein/calorie content of cat food can predispose a dog to obesity, diabetes or even kidney disease if fed long term. Feed your cat in a separate room or on a counter out of your dog's reach. Crate your dog until after your cat is done eating. Do not leave cat food out for the dog to graze on.
