Q. A new cat was brought into our home about a month ago...it is a stray baby cat now our older cat seems to have lost her appetite and is only drinking
A. It may be related or not. The stress of a new addition to the family can certainly have this effect. The use of pheromone collars or sprays may help to ease any anxiety. In the meantime, offer a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts. Serve warm or mix in a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate the appetite. Transition to the regular diet once she is eating normally. If her appetite does not return, see your vet to rule out medical causes.
