Q. Female 20 yr old cat.Blood in urine for 3+ mo.No palpable tumor.Antibiotic worked 1st time, bot not 2d time. What could be causing? Anything I can do?
A. Recheck with your vet. Have him/her collect a sterile sample for urinalysis and urine culture. Blood work may be able to diagnose kidney disease or infection higher up in the urinary tract. Xrays or ultrasound may diagnose kidney or bladder stones.

A. Most cases of cystitis (blader inflamation) in cats are non infectious and are related purely to stress. Try to think of something has changed in her life routine, maybe a new pet or person in the house a new neighbour, changes in furniture and so on. At her age with this condition I would also recommend a specialist ultrasound.
