Q. Can I add brown rice to my dog's wet grain free food? How much can I add? she hates kibble but I don't think she is eating enough and hates kibble.

A. Add a teaspoon or two just to get her eating. You can also try mixing in some warm water to stimulate her appetite. Do not offer any treats or other foods before feeding her. Avoid the "carousel of foods" which only serves to create a picky eater. Have her examined by your vet to rule out medical causes for her lack of appetite. Your vet will let you know if your dog is too skinny.

A. Usually these formulas are well balanced already so adding brown rice will cause her diet to be less balanced than it is. Too much carbs are not good for dogs either, it might make her gain too much weight.

If you are concerned she is not eating enough, have her checked by your veterinarian or veterinary nurse in order to assess her ideal weight.
