Q. I have a terrier mix. He has been diagnosed with enlarged heart and also low sodium. approx 10yrs old. he is active anything else I can do for him?
A. Keep him lean. Monitor for lethargy, coughing or difficulty breathing. Have an echocardiogram performed at least once a year and have his blood pressure monitored as well. If the enlargement is mild, he may not require any medication but it is a progressive condition.
DR. JENNIFER LADD, DVM
A. There are a variety of cardiac medications that can help, but I would need to know his actual diagnosis, and speak with you regarding symptoms that he may have, i.e. wet cough, fluid in his abdomen etc.
