Q. My 9 week old puppy has a slight cough/dry hack and her stools are runny, sometimes snotty. She has around 3/4 poo's a day.
A. Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites which can cause the signs you are seeing (the parasite larvae are coughed up then swallowed to get to the intestinal tract). Withhold food for 12 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. Continue feeding until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If the symptoms don’t stop, recheck with your veterinarian.
