Q. I have notice weight loss in my dog, but he has a huge appetite and I feed him very well.
A. Weight loss with a good appetite is always concerning. It is important to have him seen by a veterinarian as these signs can indicate an underlying medical condition that is preventing him from storing vital nutrients. I worry about parasites and gastrointestinal diseases, as well as several other diseases that may cause these signs. I would highly recommend bringing a stool sample for analysis as well to check for parasites.

A. He should be examined by a vet to determine why he is losing weight. He could have an infection, metabolic disease ( liver, kidney, heart, etc), or endocrine disease (diabetes, Cushing's disease). Your vet can run labwork and take xrays, if needed, to help diagnose and treat the weight loss.
