A. If your cat is experiencing hair loss, it may be that he has an underlying condition such as external parasites (fleas and ticks), mange (small mites that live on the body) or even a metabolic condition such as thyroid disease. If you are unable to take him to the vet at this time, a good bath (if he'll let you) to remove any parasites and starting him on a flea treatment plan may help with minor issues. However if the issues continue, he will need to see a vet for further care.
Your local humane society may be able to help with vet care as many have lists of low-cost or no-cost clinics in the area that will help with rescued cats or low income families. Some shelters also have a fund set up for people who rescue stray or feral cats to help get the cats vaccinated, examined and spayed or neutered. Talking with your local shelter may be the next step needed in helping to get your cat feeling great!
