Q. My American Dingo " Sunny" has a small black patch on the skin of a leg. It is not raw or crusty, Hair is gone though. Topical creams haven't worked

A. Depending on the location of the black patch, it is possible that what you are seeing is a callus that has formed. These will typically appear over joints such as the elbows and knees and show up as harder, rough patches of skin that are hairless. They are usually perfectly fine unless your dog is bothered by it. If you're hoping to soften up the callus some, placing some coconut oil or vitamin E on the spot can help keep the skin more smooth and supple. If the patch changes in color, size or becomes bothersome to Sunny, making an appointment with your vet can help to determine the cause of the change.
