Q. There a bald soar no pus growing the size of a marble on top of the wrinkle of my bulldogs nose not in between any suggestions?

JESSICA L DESROSIERS

A. If the bald spot is at the area where the nose meets the skin, and you have a dog that likes to dig, it is possible he is developing a callus at that area. Bulldogs are also prone to bacterial skin infections, and even if it isn't directly in the wrinkle or folds, you may be seeing the beginnings of one. The area may be losing hair, itchy, red or warm to the touch. Growths and other strange lumps and bumps can also be caused by several other issues, so it is best to have your vet take a look if the cause is unknown. They may want to take a sample of the growth with a needle aspirate or biopsy tool to send to a lab if the cause can't be readily determined.

Until you can get to the vet, it is best to not let your dog attempt to scratch at the area so that it can try to heal. Using an Elizabethan collar may help if your dog is attempting to paw at the spot.
