Q. My dog has a hot spot and he has medicine I'm giving to him. But to shave, he doesn't like dog clippers. Would scissors work?

A. Scissors would help if the fur is very long so that you can access the area, however shaving is best. You can try to get your dog used to the clippers by running them next to him and feeding treats, then placing them against him and treating until he is comfortable. However if the area is very bad and needs to be shaven, it may be best to bring him into your vet for sedation so that the area can be clipped clean and the medication can have full effect on the skin.
