Q. My 8 yr old boxer has started pooping in the house. Why?

A. A sudden change in behavior such as accidents in the house or loss of bowel control may indicate an issue such as illness, digestive upset, internal parasites or even issues with the muscles/nerves surrounding the anus and colon. Bringing in a sample of your dog's stool to check for the most common causes, and bringing her in for an examination are best to try and see if there are any medical causes to the problem. Older dogs may also begin to have cognitive issues, and may benefit from returning to a "puppyhood" style of potty training, or even switching to a brain-boosting senior diet to help improve cognitive function and return back to a normal routine.
