Q. My dog won't go outside willingly for weeks after it has rained. He is now 18 months old and I got him about 6 months ago. What can I do please?

A. Here are a few things you can try: Using doggie boots or a coat may help so that your dog doesn't have to step in uncomfortable wet puddles or get wet while outside doing his business. You can also try to use a high-value treat to coax him outside and then reward when he goes potty successfully, and ONLY use those treats during these times. If you have a backyard, adding a piece of sod or fake potty area to a part of your yard that has an overhang may also help encourage him to go outside without being rained on, but still on an appropriate surface.

If you are still having issues, then speaking with a trainer or behaviorist in your area may be a good idea as they can offer more tailored advice based on seeing the issue first-hand.
