A. Kidney failure and illness can cause a dog to lose its appetite, and you may need to entice him to eat some. If your vet send you home with a kidney specific prescription diet, it can be warmed up or moistened (if dry kibble) to make it more palatable. If he refuses to eat at all and is weakening rapidly, it is best to bring him back in for veterinary care ASAP as they may need to give IV meds and fluids to help him feel better.
