Q. Any other methods of stopping unnecessary whining behavior besides ignorance? Tried a water squirt bottle, used to hate it but loves it now

A. And shaking the can each time he whines but he should not see that you have the can in your hand. Please try the other methods first as aversive techniques such as water bottle and loud noises can sometimes create more anxiety. You can also try fitting the dog in a Thundershirt and giving Rescue Remedy to help calm him.

A. First health issues need to be ruled out. Maybe the dog is in pain. If all that is clear and you're certain he's only doing it for attention, ignore him. You can also try redirecting onto something new like basic obedience work to keep interrupting the behavior. Also ensure the dog gets plenty of exercise and provide mental stimulation such as feeding meals out of a Kong. If all that fails you can try putting pennies in a soda can and taping the top
