Q. My cat looks like he has an infection in his ear. What can I use from home to clean his ear to see if that is the problem?
A. It' s not safe to put anything down the ear canal until we are sure that the timpanic membrane is intact. Sometimes it' s not possible to see properly because of the discharge present inside the ear, but your vet will advise you on what it is best to do. Often kittens suffer from ear mites and it is a very straightforward diagnosis, your vet can prescribe a spot on that is effective against them that just needs to be applied on the skin.
