Q. M y mom's 11 y.o. Cocker spaniel was just diagnosed with internal bleeding and a huge tumor around its spleen. Will surgery help at this point?

A. It' something that needs to be discussed with her vet, surgery wil not be advised if the tumour is malignant and has spread to the chest for example. Benign tumours can be successfully removed , however she needs to consider if she wants to put him through a long surgery and recovery at his age.

A. From what you are describing it sounds like surgery or euthanasia are your only options but you need to make a quick decision. If the dog survives this type of surgery and the next few days after the chances are that it may only extend its life by 6-12 months. It is best to be guided by what your veterinary surgeon advices as he/she knows the physical condition of your dog and if there are any other factors to consider with your particular case.
