Q. My dog itches like crazy. She doesn't have fleas and has a large bump at the base of her tail. Gold bond powder helps some and so does Benadryl.
A. It is best to find out the cause of the problem rather than just treating the symptoms so that it can have proper treatment. I recommend booking an appointment with your vet for some investigation work.

A. I would recommend scheduling a examination with your veterinarian to investigate the underlying cause for your dog's itchiness. It could be an allergy to food or other environmental allergens. Your veterinarian can discuss how to complete a food trial or allergy testing. Also there are stronger medications that can be prescribed by your veterinarian to help with the itching. If your dog is itching a lot he or she can cause a secondary skin infection that will require antibiotics to help heal properly.
